Pelvis Sketches
This assignment was to sketch from three old master drawings the skeletal pelvis of the image. The book I used was the same German book called Aktzeichnungen Grosser Meister that I used to get the rib cage sketches. The first sketch was from a drawing on brown paper by Raffaello Sanzio on page 20. This is the ¾ image of the pelvis that I used. The second sketch is the foreshortened view of the pelvis. Michelangelo Buonarroti sketched this master drawing seen on page 42 using red chalk. This sketch of the pelvis was slightly more difficult of the three for me. I had a difficult time imagining the view of a pelvis from below. The third sketch is the straight on view of the pelvis. I took it from a sketch by Pietro Perugino on page 24 and it was drawn on brown paper heightened with white.

Rib Cage Sketches
These are the rib cage sketches. The assignment was to find three old master drawings of which we could place tracing paper over and draw where the rib cage would be on the picture. The first sketch is a front view of the rib cage. The second is a ¾ view of the rib cage and the third sketch is a back view of the rib cage. I found the three images from a German book called Aktzeichnungen Grosser Meister, which is a collage of body sketches, by numerous famous artists such as Michelangelo Buonarroti and Francois Boucher. The first image is by Michelangelo on page 112. The second image is by Daniele Ricciarelli Da Volterra found on page 128 and the third image is by Michelangelo on page 190.
I had the most trouble with the ¾ view of the rib cage because it was difficult to understand which direction to take each rib to make it appear like a rib cage and not an egg. That did not seem to work too well for me but I continuously worked at it until I was comfortable with its appearance. The front view of the ribs came to be the easiest of the three to draw and the back was probably the next difficult view.

A Glimpse of the Past
The first image I have posted is of fruit that was drawn for my Drawing II class, 2008. It was an assignment of which we had to take a close up photograph of a fruit of our choice. This piece was drawn on light blue charcoal paper that is also a complimentary color to the dominant orange. I used soft pastels and I focused most of my attention on the detail of the oranges being that it is the most dominant of the piece.
The second image was also made in my Drawing II class. The assignment was to take a single bag and photograph it, modify the photos by making them opaque and then overlapping. I drew from the Photoshop image using compressed charcoal on rough charcoal paper and shading with my fingers. As far as getting the lines to appear sharp I used a small eraser to keep the appearance crisp and neat.
After finding a microscopic image online, in this case it happens to be beer, I created the inspiration for my third piece. The idea the assignment from Drawing II was to basically replicate the found image using pastel on black charcoal paper. For the most part the piece looks like the original photograph. I modified the original found image in Adobe Photoshop by combining it with another microscopic image only to make it slightly more interesting and make it more my own.
